Betsey Johnson’s fall 2011 collection was definitely the highlight of Fashion Week (well, perhaps my entire life). The “He Loves Me…He Loves Me Not” show was more fun to watch than most of the theater productions on Broadway–and I couldn’t imagine spending Valentine’s Day any other way.

The collection was colorful and whimsical, as one would expect from the eclectic and quirky designer. Full of over-the-top tuxedo coats, exaggerated flare mini skirts, plaid and wild-print dresses and pantsuits, heartbreaker tattoo-print sportswear — but it was fun!
The show started with models wearing a blunt, dark wig for the “Black Tag” Collection, described by the program as sophisticated, sexy and sleek. Followed by the “Black Tag” was the “Pink Patch” collection, which is described as the “affordable (under $100), accessible and true-blue Betsey.
The best part of the presentation was when Betsey Johnson sent her staff of girls and occasional boys–all shapes and sizes–dressed in her clothes at the end followed by an audience support of whistles and clapping.
And of course, she ended the show with her finale trademark cartwheel and even dragged her BFF Patricia Field down the runway. If this is what fashion looks like at 68 years-old, count me in!
Miss Jay, Robert Verdi and June Ambrose were spotted front row. I know first hand because I was lucky enough to snag a seat right behind them. HA!
