Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Tibi F/W 2011

Tibi is known for fab frocks and a feel of effortless chic–which designer Amy Smilovic creates season after season–but this time, she took a slightly different approach.

This collection was heavily inspired by the sleek and modern simplicity of the 90s decade. Updated interpretations of American classics that are sophisticated, fresh and young are mixed with extreme elements of rich laces, appliqués and Rococo-styled prints for evening wear.

Still sleek, but staying true to her design aesthetic–the grunge came through in the hot pink beanies and arm bands, the slightly baggie trousers and the olives, greys and browns. The runway was filled boyfriend blazers, coats, vests and knit dresses.  And speaking of dresses, she gave us so many options to choose from – knit or satin, shift or sheath, mini or maxi, day or cocktail.

Without fuss or pretense, Amy created luxurious, fresh and youthful pieces we all want to wear. Just ask any of the front-row girls – Olivia Palermo (who is also the face of Tibi Spring 2011), Vanessa Hudgens, Tinsley Mortimer or Abby Elliott.
