Well, Christian Siriano isn’t the only Project Runway alum who made it to New York Fashion Week this season. Project Runway’s season six winner, Irina Shabayeva, presented her Fall 2011 collection.

The show was like being in Barcelona in the 1940s, and I’m not just saying that because the “Barcelona” song from the movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona was bumping through the speakers.

Irina sure knows how to do things with a flare…literally.  Her structured jackets and fitted wool skirts with a flare at the bottom were a perfect mix of tailored femininity–a throwback to the style of the 40s.  The dresses in the line took one of two forms:  very form-fitted and simple, with red and black floral details or voluminous gowns with cut-out “snowflake” designs on them.

I was a fan of the snowflake cut-outs on the dress because they added a 3-dimensional quality that I haven’t really seen before.  It was definitely a line that kept my attention!  The best part was probably the hats that all the models were wearing.

So cool and retro…ugh, gotta love a good hat!
