Arise Magazine African Collective: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week F/W 2010

I waited in line for nearly 2 hours for this show, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The African-themed and fashion magazine – ARISE — featured three collections as part of its “African Collective—Part III” runway show. The showcase was filled with a number of daring prints, outworldy colours and enough sequins to blind your eyes.

The South African label Black Coffee (Jacques van der Watt and Danica Lepen) featured oversized coats with wide collars in muted peach and tan colors.

The next collection from Loin Cloth & Ashes (Anisa Mpungwe), frequently referenced origami figures.

The finale and my clear cut favorite of the night was from Deola Sagoe. She featured strong, structured shoulders on jackets, tassels, metallic fabrics and gold buttons were very prominent in her garments. Her signature style was military meets glam.

Celebs spotted: Chanel Iman (model), June Ambrose (celeb stylist), Dwight Eubanks (Atlanta Housewives), Veronica Webb (model) and Nolé Marin (Elle Magazine Editor).
